WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is not intended for use in diagnosing, healing or preventing disease. It is not an alternative to todays Western medical and psychological services, but rather an adjunctive therapy that can help support healing and increase a feeling of wellbeing.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not affiliated with any religion or religious practice.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive ancient Japanese technique for relaxation and healing that utilizes energy-based methods. This practice enhances the body's natural healing abilities, addressing physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
HOW REIKI WORKS
Reiki is based on the understanding that everything in the body is made up of energy. When that energy becomes disrupted or depleted - through stress, emotional strain, or life transitions - people often feel it as tension, fatigue, or feeling “off” without a clear reason.
Reiki works by helping the energetic body return to a more balanced, grounded state - bringing calmness, clarity and deep relaxation to Mind, Body and Spirit.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU ARRIVE
During a Reiki session, first we do a quick check in. This is energy work - lets take the time to connect! After that, you simply rest fully clothed in a comfortable position on a massage table or in a reclining chair while the practitioner works with subtle energy through light touch or hands held just above the body.
There is no force, manipulation, or physical adjustment.
Many people describe the experience as:
● Deeply calming.
● Mentally quieting.
● Emotionally releasing.
● Or simply “finally being able to rest”.
From a practical perspective, Reiki supports the nervous system in shifting out of survival mode and into a more regulated, restorative state.
WHAT A REIKI SESSION FEELS LIKE
Every person experiences Reiki differently.
Some clients notice warmth or gentle 'wave' sensations throughout the body during a session. Many notice the heaviness in their body lift, leaving them feeling lighter and more at ease, experiencing a deep sense of internal stillness. For others, emotions bubble to the surface they weren't expecting, such grief they thought had dealt with.
It is also completely normal to feel very little during the session itself. Beyond the profound relaxation of the session, many only notice the effects afterward (3-days seems to be the magic number!), such as improved sleep, clarity of thought, or a sense of lasting emotional lightness.
There is no “right” experience. Your body responds in the way it needs most at that time.
BENEFITS OF REIKI ENERGY HEALING
Reiki is often chosen as a form of support during times of stress, transition, or emotional overwhelm.
People commonly seek Reiki for:
● Stress reduction and relaxation.
● Emotional balance.
● Nervous system support.
● Better sleep.
● Feeling more grounded and centered.
● Gentle energetic reset during life changes.
It is not a replacement for medical care, but many people find it complements other forms of wellness and self-care.
IS REIKI RIGHT FOR YOU?
Reiki may be supportive if you are:
● Feeling mentally or emotionally overloaded.
● Navigating change or uncertainty.
● Struggling to fully relax, even when resting.
● Wanting a gentle, restorative experience without pressure.
You do not need to “believe” in Reiki for it to be effective. Your nervous system will respond to it whether "believe" or not. Most people simply come with curiosity and a willingness to slow down.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF
REIKI ENERGY HEALING

Mikao Usui Sensi
Father of Reiki
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century and was developed by Mikao Usui. After a period of deep spiritual study and meditation, Usui formulated Reiki as a gentle energy practice focused on supporting balance, relaxation, and healing of the whole person. The practice was later carried forward by his students, including Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata, who helped introduce it beyond Japan. Today, Reiki is practiced worldwide as a non-invasive method for promoting calm, restoration, and energetic harmony.
The 5 Reiki Precepts - GOKAI
(With Japanese pronunciation)
Just for today: (Kyo-dake-wa)
1. I will not be angry (Ikaruna)
2. I will not worry (Shin-pai-suna)
3. I will be grateful (Kan-shash-tay)
4. I will do my work honestly (Gyo-o-haga-may)
5. I will be kind to myself and others (Hito-ni-shin-setsu-ni)
Listen to Reiki's 5 Precepts - GOKAI
Spoken in Japanese
HOW THE PRECEPTS CAN IMPROVE YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE
The precepts (Gokai) are designed to gently shift attention away from reactive patterns and into a more grounded, present state of awareness.
-
“I will not be angry” helps reduce emotional reactivity, creating more space between trigger and response.
-
“I will not worry” supports the nervous system in stepping out of constant future-focused stress.
-
“I will be grateful” trains the mind to notice what is steady and supportive, even during difficulty.
-
“I will do my work honestly” encourages integrity and presence in everyday tasks, reducing inner conflict.
-
“I will be kind to every living thing” fosters compassion, which often softens internal self-judgment as well.
WHEN YOU MAKE IT A DAILY PRACTICE
Rather than being perfection-based, the precepts are meant to be gentle reminders. Even reflecting on one of them during the day can shift your mindset from stress or autopilot into something more calm, intentional, and balanced.
Over time, they help build:
● Emotional regulation.
● Mindfulness in daily life.
● Reduced stress spirals.
● More compassionate self-talk.
● A greater sense of inner stability.
