REIKI FOR STRESS RELIEF, EMOTIONAL HEALING AND DEEP RELAXATION
Gentle Reiki energy healing that helps calm the nervous system, release emotional tension and restore balance to mind, body and spirit.
Trusted by clients throughout the Lower Mainland seeking a grounded, professional approach to holistic healing and emotional wellbeing since 2022.
WHAT IS REIKI ENERGY HEALING?
Reiki (ray-key) is a complementary wellness modality developed in Japan by Mikao Usui. It is non-invasive energy work that uses a series of light-touch/no-touch hand positions to support balance between the Mind, Body and Spirit.
Reiki is subtle and it can also be powerful in the way quiet things are powerful It often helps people soften out of survival mode and into a steadier, more grounded state.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not connected to any religion.
Important Note: Reiki is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease or illness. It isn't a replacement for medical or psychological intervention and/or care. It is used as a supportive, complementary wellness modality only.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
Energy Flow: Reiki practitioners believe that life energy flows through all living beings. When this energy is low or blocked, it can lead to physical or emotional discomfort.
Hand Placement: During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body in specific positions.
Energy Channeling: The practitioner acts as a channel to transfer energy to the recipient, aiming to clear energy blockages and stimulate the body's natural healing processes.
Relaxation and Balance: This process is said to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and restore balance to the body's energy.
Although Reiki is widely used for stress reduction and relaxation, scientific evidence on its effectiveness is limited, and it is generally considered a complementary therapy rather than a primary treatment.
If you're interested in trying Reiki, it’s best to consult with a qualified practitioner and consider it as part of a holistic approach to health.
What To Expect During Your Private Reiki
Every person is different, and every session is different. You'll always know what's happening, and you're always in charge of your comfort.
-
Grounded Check-In: We start with a brief conversation about what you're navigating right now. Stress, burnout, grief, change, overwhelm, feeling disconnected, or simply needing rest. You don't need the perfect words. I'll meet you where you are.
-
Get Comfortable (fully clothed): You'll lie on the table or in a reclining chair, fully clothed. Reiki is done with soft touch or hands hovering slightly above the body. In this, deference is always given to the client and their comfort level.
-
Whole-body Balancing: I follow your energy with my hands, seeking densities and energetic 'wobbles'. Using a combination of hands-on Reiki and targeted sound balancing, I seek to bring movement and energetic flow back to the area. People experience Reiki in all kinds of ways: warmth, tingling, a sense of drifting, emotional release, deep calm or simply a quiet mind.
-
Intuitive Messaging: During a session, I may pick up intuitive 'messages' for your highest good. This messaging comes to me in a variety of ways ranging from 'seeing' to 'hearing' to smells or a 'knowing'. I will never pass on any intuitive messages without your prior written consent.
-
Closing and Integration: We finish slowly, with time to re-orient before you leave. I'll share simple integration suggestions to keep your vibration smoothed and balanced, as well as let you know of any aftercare needed.
Benefits Clients Often Notice:
Reiki isn't something I "do to you." It's something your system responds to when it finally has room to breathe. Clients often tell me they notice things like:
-
Feeling calmer and more grounded.
-
Chronic illness symptoms are less noticable.
-
A quieter mind and a softer stress response.
-
A deeper rest and relaxation level, even at home.
-
An emotional lightness and/or more clarity.
-
Feeling more connected to themselves.
-
They notice that they look different. They can see the light behind their eyes again. (And so can I - it's very cool!)
Your experience will be your own and we keep it gentle, supportive and consent-based.
Frequently Asked Questions Before Your First Session
Do I need to take my clothes off?
No. It is hands-on, light-touch or no-touch energy work. Think Mr. Myagi in The Karate Kid movie, when he "heals" Daniel with his hands; It’s sort of like that, but not in Hollywood time. Direct or indirect touch preferences will always remain yours, based on your level of comfort.
Is this a massage?
- No. There is some light tapping near the end of the treatment, but nothing like you would receive during a massage. Clothing is kept on at all times.
Do I need to believe in Reiki?
- No. You don't need to believe in Reiki. Your nervous system will respond whether you 'believe in it' or not. Come as you are - curious, tired, hopeful, skeptical, or simply ready for some deep restorative relaxation.
What should I wear?
- Comfortable clothing without a belt is best. You will stay fully clothed on the table (or in a chair) and covered with a sheet and a blanket for warmth.
Is Reiki energy healing safe for pregnancy?
Yes. Reiki is beneficial and safe for mother and child alike. Reiki energetically supports during pregnancy, during the birthing process, and after delivery. Reiki addresses the symptoms of many issues, ranging from a difficult and emotional pregnancy, to a difficult delivery and recovery, as well as post-partum depression. It is always recommended that you first check with your doctor or medical team that this is safe for you, prior to booking an appointment.
Are you a Psychic? Do you do 'readings'?
- No. I am not what one would consider a "Psychic" and I do not do tarot card readings. All energy workers have a touch of the 'Claires' in them. My gifts do come into playing during a 90-minute Reiki session, however, they are not a cornerstone of the of Reiki technique I practice. Every new client is asked on their intake form if they are open to intuitive "hits", should I receive any, but I will never just spring them on you. Do not feel bad about saying "No" to this aspect. I respect your boundaries.
How many sessions should I book?
- In my experience, most clients coming in for the first time require at least three (3) 90-minute Reiki sessions to get to a place where they feel they don't need as much support. Once my clients are in a better feeling place, we begin to stretch the time between their sessions and adjust as needed. Some people love a single session every month or two as a reset and energetic boost. Others choose consistency, especially during stress-heavy seasons or major transitions, coming in weekly to 'dump' toxic energy accumulated during the work week. If you're unsure what's best for you, let's start with one and listen to what your mind/body/spirit asks for next!
What if I get emotional during a session?
- Don't worry about it, first and foremost; it's a very human reaction to have when our unconscious mind senses it is in a safe place. Especially when we feel like we have been holding our breath for years. Emotional release is a natural reaction and is part of your system unwinding, releasing and accommodating the new energy. I don't judge. I keep it gentle and supportive for your highest good.
Do you work with people in hospital/hospice? What about people with terminal illness or end-of-life situations?
Yes. In such situations, I am there for the family as a whole, not just for the hospice patient. Repeat hospital visits will be charged a service fee that has been agreed upon by all parties prior to the sessions. My time, however, for hospice and end-of-life sessions for established clients is free of charge (within the Lower Mainland). Those sessions are freely given of compassion. It is not a cure, and it is not intended to replace a doctor/psychiatrists advice and/or care, but it can help bring a sense of peace and/or calm in a heartbreaking situation. Please call me to discuss.
Is Reiki a substitute for medical care or therapy?
- No, absolutely not. Reiki is complementary wellness support modality. It can be used alongside medical and mental health care to augment, but it is not intended to be a replacement.
Do you teach Reiki classes?
Yes. Spirit River Reiki offers private Reiki classes for Reiki Level 1 for Self-Care and Reiki Level 2 for care of others. The Master Level is taught as requested and at our discretion. Students that did not train with Spirit River Reiki for Levels 1 & 2 may be asked to repeat the levels with Kelly before proceeding.
What is your cancellation policy?
- Please provide 24 hours' notice for cancellations out of courtesy for my time and scheduling. I do not generally charge for missed appointments when they are few and far between. I understand that life happens and plans change; however for frequent missed sessions, you may be unable to book more sessions without pre-payment and the session would become non-refundable.
Do I HAVE to come to the studio? Can't we do Distance Reiki instead?
- Yes and No. Distance Reiki is offered to existing clients that have been seen in-studio for at least one session. Some Reiki Masters are okay sharing distance Reiki with someone they have not met in person, but I draw a personal ethical line here. But after I have seen you once in person, you never really have to come back for in-studio sessions! We can switch them fully over to distance if you wish.
Do you work with children?
Sort-of. I work with teens that are 16 years old or more.
What Type of People Reach for Reiki?
The 'type' of people reaching for Reiki are those with an open mind and faith that what they don't know and can't explain fully can still be effective. They are the type of people who want to regain their sense of Mind, Body and Spirit, but don't feel like they fit nicely into a therapeutic box. They are suffering professional burnout, grief and heartbreak, anxiety and low energy. They aren't sleeping well through major life transitions and feel like they are losing connection.
We all need recovery seasons where the body is afforded rest and gentleness and a chance to reconnect. I welcome all who feel like they've been holding it together for too long and the ones who simply want a peaceful place to receive and recalibrate.
Why My Sessions Are 90-Minutes:
Most people don't need another thing to "push through". They need time to arrive. My 90-minute sessions are designed to give your system space to settle. Not just your mind, but your whole body. It allows us to move through a full-body balancing in a way that feels steady and complete.
If you're not in Langley....
My clients travel from nearby areas like Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Coquitlam, Surrey, Delta, Burnaby, White Rock, Vancouver, Abbotsford and Chilliwack.Distance Reiki is available for established clients only, and can be a supportive option when in-person isn't possible.
