Reiki for pets is a gentle form of energy healing where your animal chooses how the session unfolds, creating a calm, respectful experience that supports physical comfort, emotional balance, and deeper trust. It gives our pets a holistic option for stress management and illness support.
Reiki helps sensitive or sick animals feel safe, seen, and supported through intuitive, respectful energy work.
WHAT IS ANIMAL-LED REIKI?
Animal-led Reiki is a gentle and respectful approach to Reiki that allows the animal to lead the healing experience rather than the practitioner.
Instead of imposing the sharing of energy, the practitioner 'listens' to the animal's comfort level and follows their energy and body language.
HOW IT WORKS
Animals use various ways to communicate with a Reiki practitioner. These can look like:

Moving closer when they want connection.

Stepping back when they need space.

Licking their lips.

Yawning.

Stretching

Walking away when they have had enough.
The animal is free to receiving energy (or not!) where they choose. The practitioner is guided through observation and the owner's report on the condition of their pet. Taking all things into consideration, the practitioner will conduct the session in a fluid way, adjusting between techniques as needed for the situation.
Many animals are highly sensitive to energy and often know exactly what they need. We honour their natural instincts and never force the session if they are communicating a "No".
Unlike traditional hands-on Reiki for humans, animal Reiki respects the fact that healing for animals often happens best when they feel fully in control - which may mean they do not want to be touched at all - and that's okay.

In-Person vs. Distance Animal Reiki Sessions
Animal Reiki can be offered:
In-Person: For local pets who feel safest in their own environment, are too ill to leave home or are too large to be transported.
Distance Reiki can be offered for animals who:

Live outside the local area.
Distance sessions can be especially effective because animals often receive energy more comfortably in their own space.
As with human Distance Reiki, it is Spirit River's ethical preference to only share energy remotely with animals that have been seen at least once, in-person. This can be facilitated through a home visit or a studio visit.

How long is a session?

Several factors come into play when it comes to session length, with the most important part being your animal's tolerance and comfort level. Generally, 60-90 minutes are scheduled and the practitioner follows the animals lead and goes from there.
